His spirit will follow you..

My mom works in a government hospital and for her ease we stay nearby in quarters in the capital city, eventhough we own a house in the rural area of the state. We make visits to our house 3 to 4 times in a month to clean our house , dust the floor, water plants etc.

We wanted to give our house for rent but my parents are so attached to it (especially my mom) that they are scared of others damaging it.

So as I said we usually visit our own house to make it tidy. So today it was one such day. Usually its my dad who cleans the yard, clears weeds and mom and me do all the inside work like moping, dusting etc.

Behind our house we have enough land for planting different trees and plants , but since we don’t stay there the area is left abandoned(except some random plants that don’t need that much water). So my dad thought of clearing the weeds and making it suitable for growing plants.

So as I mentioned my house is in a rural area and the land was bought by us from people who lived there before. And you all know about the hindu custom of funeral, we set the body to fire without taking a pit unlike other religions. So my dad today told me as he was clearing the weeds that people who lived here years ago where really poor ones who didn’t own money or any other land inorder to cremate the dead. So they used to do all the funerals wherever they saw a space near they lived and also used to plant a coconut tree at the same place as a memory.

As soon as he said that I realised that we had many coconut trees in our land. I felt a bit scary but then I was fine. Little did I know that something else was waiting for me. As I was talking to my dad I felt something hard under my foot . I tried to pull it out and found that it was a piece of wood full of mud..but its shape was a bit confusing so I decided to clean it. And guess what !!!

As I started washing it its shape was becoming familiar to me. And finally I realized that it is a vertebrae.. vertebrae of a human..

I ran to my dad and told him about it and I started to look for more bones nearby but didn’t find any..

Within seconds I starting clicking pictures of it..and I decided to carry it back with me. So as I was trying to find a place to hide this in my car my mom caught me.

Ignore the bg..:p

She is a person with an old mentality. She scolded me for touching it and took it away from me. I was a bit sad but its fine..She was trying to make me scared by saying the person’s spirit will follow you and what not…I mean..I am not a baby..C’mon..

Oops!! Not again…

Everyone at some point of our life must have thought about this..’ Why does milk overflow when boiled ??’ and ‘Why do things in the to do list come to our mind when the milk is just few seconds away from boiling over ??’:p

Well I don’t know the answer to the second question..lol..But yeah I can explain the phenomenon taking place in the first question.

So when we heat water some amount of it changes it’s state to vapour form..In the case of normal water it rises up but in the case of milk, since the upper layer of milk is covered with cream, the vapour tries to push out the layer hence spilling it.

Kitchen tip : You can prevent boiling over of milk by keeping a wooden spoon/stick across the vessel .

Thank me later :p Cheers :))

Collar bone fracture !!!!

The time was around 3 PM..my dad had dropped me home from school and was returning back to work in his motorbike…

I was resting in my couch watching my favorite cartoon ‘doraemon’… that we got a call from dad’s number informing us that he had met with an accident…

We managed to arrange an autorikshaw and went to see him in the hospital where he was taken..

We went into the casualty and the only thing I remember now was that he was holding or rather supporting his right hand with his left hand..and at that point I merely didn’t know about these signs.

Soon after that, we spoke to the doctor and he said that he had broke his collar bone and he needed immediate surgery…

Later on the next day he underwent the surgery…

And cut to now that is after 5 years..he still has the plate and screws in his clavicle inserted during the surgery.

So this was my personal experience with the collar bone fracture…and now I know ( perks of being in a medical profession) the reason why this fracture is quite common in RTAs ( Road traffic accidents).

Clavicle; superior and inferior view

The collar bone aka CLAVICLE is an ‘S’ shaped bone. And the commonest site for its fracture is the point where its two curvatures meet which is also the weakest point of the bone.

The frature can occur due to a strong impact on the hand or shoulder, when the person falls on the outstretched hand or shoulder.

X -RAY of clavicle fracture

When the fracture occurs the lateral fragment is displaced downward due to the weight of the upperlimb and the medial fragment is slightly elevated. This is the reason why the patient supports his fractured hand with the opposite hand as I mentioned in my dad’s case.

And it can be treated by joining the two parts by putting a plate as soon as possible because there is a chance that it might grow while retaining in that position.

It’s actually a wonderful feeling when you get to know the reason behind certain phenomenas and incidents that you have watched while growing up and this is what happens when you are in a medical profession. Proud Medico. Cheers :))

Hey there !

I really wanted to do this for a long time and finally this lockdown made it happen :).

This is an introductory post, just to introduce myself and the topics that I would love to talk about.

I’m a medical student. I would like to use this platform to share my knowledge and information about the anatomy of human body, health and fitness.

There are many interesting facts and informations about our body that I felt are worth sharing.

And I would also love to share my experiences as a medico and the hardwork I had put in to be one.

I hope that atleast some of you would find my page helpful and please don’t hesitate to ask doubts . Cheers :))
